Visitors on this 6 days Rwanda primates adventure will have the opportunity to immerse themselves into the vibrant forests in Rwanda that are habitats to some of the most attractive primates on the continent and the world at large.
Have the opportunity to explore Volcanoes National Park and the Iby’iwacu cultural village which is a celebrated Cultural Center for Rwandan history and traditions. Visits to the center will provide opportunities for the visitors to learn more about the Rwandan culture and experience the Rwandan traditions most notably get a taste of the local Rwandan food.
To further make the trip more exciting, other visits will be launched to the Kigali genocide memorial museum to further equip the visitors with information about the history of the country. This is a safari like no other as visitors will also have the opportunity to experience the big 5 animals in Rwanda’s Akagera National Park.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1: Arrival to Kigali, refresh and transfer to Nyungwe National Park.
Upon arrival in Kigali, you will meet the professional tourist guide who will interact with them and brief them about the safari. You will then undertake the transfer to the hotel to unwind and have a meal.
Relax in the hotel premises after the meal and later undertake the three hours and 53 minutes drive to Nyungwe National Park. On arrival in the National Park you will continue to the lodging facility and relax as you enjoy the views of the towering tropical rainforest and the primates within.
Dinner will be served at twilight and you will have rest overnight.
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk in Nyungwe forest National Park.
Breakfast will be served to the guests at the crack of dawn after which they will be briefed by the Rangers of the National Park about the exciting chimpanzee trek they are yet to indulge in. The Ranger guides will then accompany the visitors to the jungle to trek the chimpanzees.
Enjoy the interaction of the chimpanzees as you watch them up close in the jungle until midday. Transfer back to the lodge at midday to get served a delicious lunch.
Undertake the canopy walk in the forest to enjoy the views of the towering tree canopies and the primates within the forest. This will keep you occupied until sunset when you transfer back to the lodge to get served dinner and rest overnight.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park for Iby’iwacu cultural experience.
At crack of dawn, the guests will be served a delicious breakfast and after you will then undertake the transfer to Volcanoes National Park. The journey will take you approximately 2 hours and 10 minutes for the 105.3 kilometre distance.
On arrival at the National Park you will continue to the Iby’iwacu Cultural Center where you will have a deep exploration of the village and immersion into the cultures and tradition of Rwanda.
The local people at the cultural village enjoy showcasing their cultural dances and cultural attire. Elders at the village will tell stories about their way of life which will provide information and open the minds of the travelers about what they see in society.
Local meals will be served at the village in the afternoon and after you enjoy the entertainment the entire evening. Transfer to the lodge at sunset for dinner and an overnight stay.
Day 4: Golden monkey trekking. Drive to Kigali. Stopover at the Twin Lakes.
After breakfast at the crack of dawn, the guests will head to the headquarters of the park to have a brief meeting with the Rangers who will brief them about the dos and don’ts while on the golden monkey tracking adventure.
The guides will then accompany the guests to the jungle to help them meet their exciting primates, watch them interact in the jungle and take pictures with them up close. Transfer back to the lodge at around midday to get served a delicious lunch.
After lunch, you will then undertake the transfer journey to Kigali where you will have a stopover at the Twin Lakes. Enjoy the Twin Lakes experience, sightseeing and bird watching. It is endowed with a beautiful scenery that supports photography and videography which you will indulge in the entire afternoon.
Continue to Kigali at sunset and head to the hotel where you will have dinner. There will be an opportunity to enjoy Kigali nightlife in the state-of-the-art nightclubs and after have an overnight rest at the hotel.
Day 5: Kigali genocide memorial museum and then transfer to Akagera National Park for a Boat cruise on lake Ihema.
After the morning delicious meals, the guests will then embark on the visit to Kigali genocide memorial museum where they will have a deep immersion into the history of the country and the various events that went down in history to have the nation at its state of peace it is at right now.
The museum has a lot of artifacts that help tell the Rwandan story. Enjoy the time at the museum and after transfer to the hotel at around midday to get served lunch. After lunch, you will then undertake the transfer to Akagera National Park where you’ll have a boat cruise on the magnificent lake Ihema that will help you view a variety of wildlife species and beautiful birds.
Enjoy the cruise up to sunset. The cruising on the lake in the golden hour is worthwhile. Transfer to the lodge at twilight to have dinner and rest for the night.
Day 6: Morning game drive in Akagera National Park and the transfer to Kigali airport.
The guests will be served a delicious early meal at sunrise after which you will undertake a morning game drive through the Akagera National Park landscapes. The National Park is a renowned home to the big 5 animals and therefore guests will have the opportunity to observe them alongside other beautiful creatures especially the birds.
The game drive will keep you occupied until midday when you will transfer back to the lodge to have a delicious lunch. After lunch, you will then embark on the two hours and a half drive for the 110 kilometers to Kigali International Airport where you catch the flights back home. This will be the end of the safari.
