gorilla Trekking In RwandaWhen you step into the forest, you are sure it is a different world; a place of imaginations, wonder and expectation. Gorilla trekking is a life time adventure, done on foot in a group of not more than eight people for about 1-8 hours, plus an additional hour for you to take photos, listen to the explanations by the ranger guide, and studying them. Gorillas are social yet shy creatures, living in family, led by an alpha Male with a silver like lining at the Back. They poses over 98% human like resemblance which can be affirmed when you are deep in the forest with them; worried about nothing but the rushing time.

When combining destinations, you will get to meet different Gorilla families in different territories, with different character and story. These Jungle cousins feed on fruits, vegetables, stems, insects and leaves, getting water from the morning dew, and foliage consumed. The mothers nurse the infants and help in erecting the nests each day. The alpha males-silver backs offer security, whereas the adolescents spend most of their time playing, sleeping and feeding. The best time to meet these apes is in the morning hours, when they are actively feeding, and playing.

For each gorilla trekking destination; gorilla trekking permit cost for foreign non-residents is different, though one can get a combined tourist Visa. Uganda charges 800$ per person for a single permit; Rwanda at 1500 Usd per person, and the democratic Republic of Congo charges 450$ per person. The charges cover park entrance, payment to the ranger guides, and the money for conservation and community support. Additional costs include transport, accommodation, meals, potter fee, tips, and more.

Gorilla trekking shouldn’t be done alone when the Africa’s Big5 cats (Rhinos, African elephants, Cape Buffaloes, lions, and leopards) are calling. Game drive is done in the open savannah parks; with a variety of flora and Fauna, and the stunning landscape. Among the destinations to combine with gorilla trekking include; Queen Elizabeth national park in Uganda, Akagera national park in Rwanda; Masai Mara national Park in Kenya; Serengeti National park in Tanzania, and more.

You will lookout for among others; the warthogs, several antelope species, zebras, giraffe as, hyenas, and more. We have a sunrise game drive to catchup with the night hunters returning to their hideouts, and in the evening game drive to study more about the animals. Game drive can be full day, or done within a time frame of 3-4 hours, with the expert ranger guide taking you to their Kingdoms.

Have a tour to two worlds most sought-after moments only captured in the continent of Africa. The annual wildebeest migration is the world’s largest land animal movement. It takes place along the Serengeti-Masai Mara corridor, all year round. The climax point is when they cross the Mara River, where it is a do or die. Mara River is the toughest obstacle, since the river is invested with hippos and crocodiles that feasts on the migrants. After the gorilla trekking, you can take a trip to Serengeti national park in Tanzania or Masai Mara in Kenya to follow the over 2miilion wildebeests and thousands of zebras and gazelles looking for fresh pasture and waters.

After experiencing the Forest life, listening to the call of water is the next big deal. A boat cruise experience in the twin lakes in Rwanda and Kazinga channel in Uganda, is a boost to your wildlife Knowledge. A sail in the calm waters exposes you to several aquatic life like the birds, mammals such as a school of hippos and crocodiles, the mammals by the lake shore, and the swamps. Boat cruises last for about 2-3 hours, with the guide explaining whatever you need. The experience is safe and unforgettable.

East Africa is home to a large concentration of Chimpanzees; man’s closest relative with an over 98.8% DNA resemblance. Chimps are very clever and playful, spending most of their time playing at the tree branches and on ground. The trekking can be done in the morning when the primates have just woken up, or in the evening when they retire to their nests. Combine your Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes national park in Rwanda, and Bwindi impenetrable, and Mgahinga Gorilla national park with Kibale forest National Park.

Cultural tours are a must experience in a gorilla trekking safari. It is one way of relating the social life of the Apes and the day to today activities of humans. How man relates is more less the same as how the chimps interact. The difference is where the two dwell. One of those must visit cultures is the Batwa pygmies who are believed to be some of the shortest people in the world, and still very indigenous, upholding to their traditions and believes.

They are former hunters and gatherers in Virunga ranges, using caves as houses, feeding from wild animals, birds, fruits and vegetables; dressing on leaves and backcloth, and having medication from roots and leaves for some plants in the forest.

A Combined Gorilla trekking safari can take place throughout the year. However, the months of June to September are most ideal because of the small /no rains which makes the grounds so slippery and thus affecting the hiking experience. The months of March to May and October to November are recommended for Budget travelers because it is a low season and the discount offers given. Gorilla trekking permits are on high demand yet limited thus the need to book at least three months in advance.

An encounter with Mountain Gorillas is a special moment each and every time. When you have a combined visit; there is an exposure of the destinations, different Gorilla families, and culture. We advise booking Gorilla permits at least three months in advance to enable arrangements, and trip plan. East Africa welcomes you to the hideout of your cousins the endangered mountain gorillas.
